Controller – Wholesale Gas and Midstream

Marlem Rios is the Controller for Southern Company Gas.  In this role, she is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting, regulatory, budgeting, forecasting, and SEC reporting  for various commercial businesses, including wholesale services, pipeline investments, gas storage, and LNG operations.

Prior to joining Southern Company Gas (AGL Resources), Rios was the Nuclear Financial Manager for Georgia Power Company.  She provided financial and accounting oversight for the Vogtle 3&4 Nuclear Project. Rios has over 18 years of experience in accounting and finance and graduated from Russell Sage College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Rios was the co-founder and former President of the first Georgia Power Business Resource Group, “Amigos”.  She was also a former EVP for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs – Atlanta Chapter.  Rios has been very active in developing strategic community partnerships with key organizations like Latin American Association, League of United Latin American Citizens, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Latin American Chamber of Commerce and others. She represents Southern Company at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Conference in Washington, DC.

Additionally, Rios was the recipient of several respected awards including the 2013 Georgia’s Latina Excellence Award that was given to her by the Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association. This award recognizes our nation’s most inspiring Hispanic tech and business women.  Also, she was the recipient of the prestigious 2014 YWCA of Greater Atlanta’s Salute to Women of Achievement Award.  Most recently, she has been honored with the Multicultural Leadership Award by the Georgia Diversity Council, recognizing minorities who have made a difference through their achievements and exemplify the ability to excel in their field and with the HABLA Award Corporate Executive of the Year.

Through these channels, Rios has been able to personally and professionally invest herself in the community where her passion is helping and serving others.
